15 May A-Plus apologises to businessman after court’s ruling on defamation suit
Musician and social commentator Kwame Asare Obeng, better known as A-Plus, has apologized in a qualified manner to Ghanaian businessman Hassan Abu Zein following a court’s ruling on defamation lawsuit against him.
A-Plus apologized on May 14 on Facebook for any harm and false claims made against Mr. Zein which may have harmed his reputation.
He made it clear that he would never purposefully damage someone’s reputation and that he has devoted his adult life to fighting for the marginalized and underprivileged in society.
“It may interest you to know that I’ve spent my adult life, fighting for the voiceless, underprivileged persons especially women and children, and minority groups. However, I must admit that I was misinformed on this particular matter. I am grateful to you for the opportunity to apologise to bring finality to the matter.,” portions of his apology on Facebook read.
A-Plus expressed regret for any hurt and harm his false words may have caused Mr. Zein. In addition, he offered to make amends if required.
“Please accept my heartfelt apologies. I am committed to setting the record straight and ensuring that the truth is known. If there is anything I can do to make amends, please do not hesitate to let me know,” he added.
The apology comes after an Accra High Court ruling ordering A-Plus to retract and apologize to Mr. Zein for the defamatory publication made against him.
In December 2021, Mr. Zein filed a defamation lawsuit against A-Plus, alleging that the musician’s use of his picture along with defamatory comments on Facebook was intended to injure his reputation.
The lawsuit sought general damages of GH₵10 million and an order directing A-Plus to retract the defamatory comment and picture through the same medium used for the defamation.
